Dr. Lawrence E. Anderson, Director of Bands and Supervisor of Teacher Education in Music, Emeritus, University of California, Davis, is a native of Lafayette, CA. He is a graduate of Acalanes High School where he was an active band member and served as Drum Major his senior year. It was here that his affiliation with, and affection for bands and wind music began.

He attended the University of California, Berkeley where he was a member of the California Marching Band and the University Concert Band. His senior year he was elected Student Director of the Marching Band. He also directed the Cal Alumni Band for several years

Dr. Anderson has been a lifelong music educator and band director. He earned his B.A. at the University of California, Berkeley, his M.A. at San Francisco State University, and his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley.

He began his career as Director of Music at Miramonte High School in Orinda. He then served as a counselor at Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord and later as Supervisor of Music Education at Sonoma State University. He presently is a Student Teacher Supervisor for Chapman University in Concord

His articles have been published in numerous professional journals including the Music Educators Journal, the Journal of Band Research and the Journal of Research in Music Education.

Dr. Anderson serves as adjudicator, clinician, consultant and guest conductor for numerous festivals, conferences and honor bands.

He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, California Music Educators Association and Phi Delta Kappa, a national organization dedicated to research, leadership and service to education.
